Press Release – January 18, 2023 – Reykjavik Global Forum Chair and co-founder Hanna Birna Kristjansdottir today announced the formation of an Action Advisory Board for the Reykjavik Global Community.

Reykjavik Global Community, an expansion of the annual Reykjavik Global Forum, is a diverse network of women leaders and their allies working to ensure that more women attain and retain power. The Action Advisory Board includes leaders from business, government, NGOs, media and academia, who will evolve the forum from an annual event into a year-round community of action – with measurable impact.

The announcement was introduced at Transformation House, an event hosted by Finnish Flow at Schatzalp in Davos, Switzerland, where Action Advisory Board members including; Silvana Koch-Mehrin, President and founder of WPL, Dr. Anino Emuwa, Founder of 100 Davos Women; Janna Salokangas, Co-Founder of Finnish Flow and Mission Impact Academy; Christy Tanner, Senior Advisor to Reykjavík Global Community, were among invitees.

Advisory board members include representatives from founding partner WPL Women Political Leaders, Council of Women World Leaders, OECD Development Centre, UN Foundation, 100 Davos Women, Cheddar News, the, Finnish Flow, Kantar Public, Landor & Fitch, Oliver Wyman, The Difference and others.

“The Reykjavik Global Community is looking forward to working with our Action Advisory Board to work against gender bias experienced by women at all levels of leadership, including CEOs and heads of state,” said Hanna Birna Kristjansdottir, Chair and Co-Founder of the Reykjavik Global Forum. “Together, we will enable more women to attain and retain power, by dramatically improving the results of the annual Reykjavik Index for Leadership, which measures the perception of women and men being equally suitable for leadership.”

The Reykjavik Index was the first measure of the perceived suitability of women and men for leadership. The 2022 Index data showed a significant lack of progress, and in some cases, regression, dropping to levels lower than were first measured when the Index was launched by Kantar Public and Women Political Leaders in 2018. Across the G7 group of countries, and in multiple areas of economic activity, many of the 2022 Index scores continue to fall far short of the target score of 100, which indicates a consensus across society that women and men are equally suited for leadership. During the coming months, Kantar Public and the Reykjavik Global Community will follow up with a more in-depth analysis by country, industry, age and on the specific question of women’s suitability for leadership.
